Five people are facing charges after a homicide investigation in Fort Macleod.

On June 20, 2021, RCMP was contacted by the family of 35-year-old Lane Tail Feathers after he didn’t return home.

Fort Macleod RCMP turned to the public for assistance in locating him, saying there was concern for his wellbeing.

One month later on July 20, 2021, police located his remains in a rural area with help from Alberta FIash and Wildlife. His death was deemed suspicious, and the investigation was handed over to Alberta RCMP Major Crimes.

On May 13 of this year, RCMP made the following five arrests:

  • Richard Lavell (43) and Miranda Turuk (28), of Fort Macleod, Alta., have been charged with Second Degree Murder. Their next court date is on May 18, 2022, in Fort MacLeod.
  • Randy Giroux (40) of Fort Macleod, Alta., has been charged with Second Degree Murder. His next court date is on May 16, 2022, in Lethbridge.
  • Michelle Toth (37) of Claresholm, Alta., has been charged with Accessory after the fact to murder and an Indignity to a body. Her next court date is May 16, 2022, in Lethbridge.
  • Edward Goodrich (51) of Granum, Alta., has been charged with Accessory after the fact to murder and an Indignity to a body. His next court date is May 18, 2022, in Fort Macleod.

No further information from the RCMP is expected.
