Several parks West and Southwest of Calgary have fire bans in place.

With the dry conditions we have been experiencing, fire restrictions and bans have been implemented across almost the entire province.

Provincial parks, wilderness areas, and ecological reserves are no exception.

The Ghost River Wilderness Area, which borders Banff National Park, is currently under a fire ban.

Due to that fire ban, campers at the Random Backcountry Camping area will be cold camping.

The Plateau Mountain Ecological Reserve, which is West of Nanton and the Chain Lakes Provincial Park, is currently under a fire ban, leaving hikers out in the cold.

The West Castle Wetlands Ecological Reserve, south of Coleman, also has a fire ban.

Overnight camping for both the West Castle Wetlands Ecological Reserve and the Plateau Mountain Ecological Reserve are off-limits.
