Dawgs can't be tamed in their first six games

The Okotoks Dawgs continued their path to a three-peat after winning their sixth straight game, not only staying undefeated but bringing their double-digit streak to six.

Benito Bonilla stayed hot and got his fourth home run over the three games this weekend, taking out the Sylvan Lake Gulls 10-7 this afternoon (June 2).

Seth Thompson from Calgary got credit with the save when he came in relief of Trent Warstler in the bottom of the ninth, closing out the Gulls in their second meeting of the season.

The scoring wouldn't open up until the top of the second when Bonilla would hit a solo home run and his third in three games giving the Dawgs the 1-0 lead.

Ricky Sanchez started the Dawgs off in the top of the third hitting a double and then scoring a run with the Dawgs next at bat Eric Machej hit a single and gave the Dawgs a 2-0 lead.

Kadyn Williams would earn two RBIs in the third after he hit a single when the Dawgs had bases loaded getting Connor Crowson and Machej across home plate and going up 4-0 on the Gulls.

The Gulls wouldn't roll over and answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning cutting the Dawgs' lead to just one.

It stayed a 5-4 ball game until the top of the fifth, Bonilla who has been crushing balls over the weekend picked up his second home run of the game and his fourth in three days. Crowson and Jacob Wrubleski scored runs in the second blast in today's game for Bonilla, giving the Dawgs a three-run lead of 7-4.

The Dawgs and Gulls traded runs in the sixth inning, Eiji Sawamura stole two bases while Sanchez was up to bat, Sanchez would hit a single getting Sawamura across home plate.

Gulls got two more runs of their own making it a 9-7 ball game after the bottom of the seventh, the Dawgs answered for the last time when Sanchez got the final run and finished the game with a 10-7 final.

Okotoks has the day off tomorrow after playing three games in three nights but will host the Edmonton Prospects on Tuesday (June 4) at Seaman Stadium with the first pitch at 7:05 pm.
