A three-car collision just north of Longview on Highway 22 has claimed the life of an 18-year-old man from Eden Valley.

The collision happened last night, Thursday May 11 at approximately 7:45, just north of the top of the hill heading into Longview.

Turner Valley RCMP were dispatched to the scene and detouried traffic.

Diamond Valley also sent a tweet last night notifying the public that Highway 22 between Longview and Hartell was closed.

The RCMP say there were two collisions.  The initial incident was a head on collision between an SUV and a passenger car.  One vehicle rolled, and then a pick-up truck was involved in a secondary collision with one of the vehicles involved in the initial collision.

An 18-year-old male from Eden Valley First Nation was declared deceased at the scene while another person was transported to a Calgary hospital via STARS.

Highway 22 was closed between Longview and Hartell (498 Ave.) and re-opened around 7:00 a.m. today.

The investigation into the cause of the collisions is ongoing.
