Cinco de Mayo celebrations in High River are starting early and will be at a new location this year.

High Riverite Liz Vigueras, originally from Mexico, says they will be celebrating and showing off their culture on Friday, May 3 at the Legion.

"It's going to be a supper and there's going to be salad, pork tacos, and chicken. And our children are going to perform our Mexican dance routines. And I think it's a great opportunity for us to show our culture in this new venue."

Vigueras is also excited because they're bringing a special singer as well.

"Yes, we are going to have Mexican singer Olga Lidia. She's from Mexico and she's coming from Calgary as part of the Mexican community that we usually collaborate together. Happy Cinco de Mayo!"

Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for the Fifth of May, is an annual celebration to celebrate Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Tickets are available at the High River Royal Canadian Legion for $25, plus G.S.T.
