Chuckwagon canvas auction for World Finals held for first time

The chuckwagon canvas auction for the Century Downs World Chuckwagon Finals finally happened on Friday.

It's the first time they were able to host the event since it was started during the pandemic.

The last two canvas auctions, the Stompede in Grande Prairie and the Calgary Stampede, were extremely successful so expectations were high heading into it.

32 wagon tarps along with 4 Wild Cards were put up for auction on Friday April 21st with outstanding results.

Somewhat surprising was the top bid went to second year WPCA driver Evan Magee bringing in $23,000 from Provincial Vodka.

Foothills locals, Jason Glass and Jordie Fike did very well too as did Dayton Sutherland. Mark Sutherland's wagon was not listed but he's also retiring at the end of this season.

Glass's checkered wagon brought in $16,000 on behalf of Friends of Jason Glass with Jordie Fike raising $10,000 from Rafter G Land and Cattle Company.

The canvas auction brought in $414,00 for the five-day conclusion of the WPCA Pro Tour.

The World Chuckwagon Finals run from August 23-27 at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.

And the final tarp auction is coming up Friday May 5 for the Ponoka Stampede.
