At 8:24 p.m. on Sunday March 10, Canmore RCMP received a report about an avalanche having occurred East of the Mount Engadine Lodge on Tower Peak in Kananaskis.

After investigating, they revealed that at approximately 1 p.m. on March 10, two adult males were skiing in the backcountry when the avalanche occurred, trapping them both in snow.

While one of the men was able to dig himself out, the other was not able to and remained buried under the avalanche.

It wasn't until 9:45 a.m. on Monday, March 11, that Canmore RCMP and Kananaskis Mountain Rescue were able to retrieve the body of the missing person.

He was identified as a 19-year-old from Kelowna, B.C.

The RCMP send their condolences to the family and those close to the deceased.

Kananaskis Mountain Rescue recommends everyone check the Avalanche Canada website for weather and terrain conditions prior to heading out to the backcountry.
