It's that time of year again when the Town of Okotoks is reminding owners operating businesses in the town to renew their business license by January 31, 2020.

All businesses operating, or selling products or a service within the town limits are required to have an annual license. Having a business license indicates that you have met the town's licensing and other municipal bylaw requirements and are permitted to operate within the town of Okotoks.

The business license should be displayed in a public area of your business and be readily available in case an official requests it.

The consequences of violating the business license bylaw come with a flat rate penalty and fines ranging from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $2,000 plus the cost of the license.

New business owners in Okotoks are recommended to check with development and planning services with the Town of Okotoks to determine if the business activity is permitted in that location. and whether safety codes or building use permits and fire inspections are required.

Some businesses may also require a provincial license and the responsabilty is upon each business to determine whether a provincial license is required.

If a business has ceased operating it is the responsibility of the business to notify the Town of Okotoks in writing. If written notice of closure has not been received, the town will assume the business is operating and a license is required.
