The Carstar Okotoks Bisons and the High River Brewing Company Flyers went head-to-head over the weekend in the HJHL.

The long-standing rivalry ended up with a shootout to decide the winner on Saturday night.

It came out in the Bisons' favour with a 3-2 final score. The teams have met up three times this season with the Bisons winning one game outright 6-1, but the other game was decided in overtime (2-1) with the latest going to a shootout. The Bisons have only lost one game this season and that was to the Cochrane Generals on October 6.

The Bisons also faced off against the Mountainview Colts from Didsbury on Friday night and skated away with a 7-0 shutout win in a penalty-riddled game. Grady Nicholas stopped all 22 shots he faced while the Herd peppered the Colts netminders for a total of 44 shots in the win.

After the weekend, the Bisons' winning streak now sits at 13.

The Flyers, on the other hand, suffered another shootout over the weekend. They lost 4-3 to the Thrashers in Three Hills on Friday night. The Flyers managed to tie it up at 3 goals apiece with just over 1 minute left in the game but were unable to score in the shootout while the Thrashers scored once in the opening round of three shooters.

And the Flyers just announced that forward Easton Weasel Head has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the ACHA Division 1 for the 2024-25 season.
