Home ice advantage wasn't enough on Friday night for the Okotoks Bisons.
The Medicine Hat Cubs pulled out a 7-5 must win and pushed the best-of-seven series to a game six.
It was a tightly contested game as the teams skated to a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes.
And then the goals started coming fast and furious in the second period ending with seven goals scored and the Cubs with a narrow 5-4 lead.
At one point the Bisons were leading 3-1 off a pair of goals from Austin O'Bray only 21 seconds apart.
The Cubs got within one goal shortly thereafter and then on two consecutive power plays they were able to take a 4-3 lead.
The third period also saw Medicine Hat score two more with the Bisons netting one with five minutes left but it wasn't enough for the 7-5 final.
The Bisons lead the Cubs 3 games to 2 in the best-of-seven series.
Game six in the HJHL south division finals now heads back to the Hat for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
And if a game seven is needed it comes back to the Murray arena in Okotoks on Sunday night at 6:00.
