Alberta Health Services is asking residents to give the gift of health and not illness this holiday season.

Albertans are being encouraged to get their flu vaccines and take proper hygiene measures to avoid spreading germs and viruses.

AHS is urging residents to get their flu vaccine as over 1 million doses of the vaccine have currently been administered in the province.

Other steps to avoid the spread of illness includes covering the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing with a tissue or into an arm instead of hands, washing hands thoroughly with soap after coughing, sneezing, using tissues and going to the bathroom and before eating, keeping hands off of the face, and staying away from work, school, and care facilities when sick.

The health organization has also stated that as of Dec. 5, over 660 cases of the flu have been confirmed in the province.
