The Okotoks Food Bank is wrapping up 2019 with a new roof over their head.

The organization is moving out of its location at 109 Stockton Point and is now leasing the back section of Camshay Plaza on 220 Stockton Avenue.

Pamela McLean, Executive Director of the Okotoks Food Bank, says the Camshay Plaza location will allow them to operate more efficiently.

"We do anticipate that our food bank is going to become a hub for Foothills County. As the demand grows deeper and deeper into the county, we want to be prepared, and be able to position ourselves to help more people in the county."

Their Stockton Point location requires the food bank to operate out of separate spaced-out bays which can lead to difficulties when transporting donations.

McLean adds that their new home will also allow the organization to feel more connected internally.

"I'll just be so glad to have the team together under one roof. It's been difficult having this one building here, another building there. It's been quite disjointed and to build that team feeling has been a challenge, and having everyone under one space, the team, the volunteers, the sponsors... it's going to be good."

She adds she's grateful for the positive experience and strong relationship with the organization's current and new landlords.

Their lease officially began Dec. 1 with gradual moves expected to begin once the food bank's Christmas hamper program is completed.

It's anticipated the food bank will officially be in their new home the first week of January.
