The Teen Room at the Okotoks Rec Centre is getting a fresh coat of paint thanks to the Okotoks Optimist Club.

The organization was approached for the project, to which they enthusiastically agreed.

Charter President Amy Giroux says it's been a fun project.

"We've had so many volunteers. Really I think we can bang it out and be done by next Sunday. There's still a lot of area that needs to be done but we had so many volunteers last time. It was a great turnout, we ordered pizza and had the music, it was a good time!"

The project was made easier by a donation of paint from Benjamin Moore and painting supplies from Home Hardware.

Giroux says she hopes to make more contributions to the Rec Centre in the future.

"Because the Okotoks Optimist Club is new, we're always looking for funding and stuff. A lot of things have been donated which is great, but some things are still needing funding, like we want to put together another area for the kids to hang out in upstairs, just while their waiting for their activities to start at the Rec Centre."
