This months Order if the Eagle is a special one! We are honoring 2 amazing Peace Officers for doing what they do best!
Dakota Zurowsk and Andy Wiebe!
While on patrol investigating a separate incident, officers came upon a citizen in distress, pointing at a young boy clinging to a rock in the Sheep River.
Kelly Steinwand, Municipal Enforcement Manager for the Town of Okotoks, says the fast actions of the officers prevented a possible tragedy.
"They worked together to cross through the strong current and deep sections of the river, and they were able to secure the child," he said.
Steinwand says it was a scary incident for the two young boys involved.
"There's no doubt that our officers contributed to saving the life of this young boy, and the parents were very appreciative of the efforts of our officers," he said.
EMS and Fire Rescue personnel attended the scene and treated the two boys, who were later released to their parents. Andy Wiebe, one of the two officers, was taken to the Urgent Care Centre and treated for water in his lungs. He was later released and is expected to fully recover. The other officer, Dakota Zurowski was unharmed.
"I'm very proud of these officers, it's the kind of bravery and commitment we see from our Peace Officers, RCMP, Fire Fighters, EMS teams, we see this kind of work from them everyday," said Steinwand.
