The Second Annual Okotoks Film Festival was off to a great start tonight! Everyone gathered for the red carpet and the Eagle Street Team was there to document everyone's excitement! Be sure to check out the images below! The opening night party will be held at Cha Cha John's with appetizers on the house and a discount on drinks! Cultures will be meeting on the screen and in the kitchen with Asian fusion cooking!

The festival will be running tonight (June 8th) through until Sunday, June 10. A whole weekend full of international, short, and feature films! It is a wonderful chance not just to watch movies, but to celebrate film. Tonight's feature film was "Ice Blue" - directed by Sandi Somers who won Best Feature Director at LA Femme Film Festival and received seven nominations at this year's AMPIA Rosie Awards. The movie was filmed right here in Okotoks - so next time you experience it, try and see if you can catch our very own Elizabeth Street!

The Okotoks Library also featured a case study on the movie, presented by Somers herself, along with the producer of "Ice Blue", Scott Lepp. They guided the audience through the challenges of filming an independent film in Alberta and the steps aspiring filmmakers may take in order to get their own projects off the ground with the most positive response.

For future Film Festival showings, be sure to visit their website http://www.okotoksfilmfestival.ca/index.php to see any upcoming feature films or visit https://www.eventbrite.ca/ for tickets! I would like to say a quick congratulations to Katie Fournell the director of the festival and Elisa Friesen, the general manager. Congrats to you both for hosting such a wonderful event that brought the community closer together through art and culture!

Be sure to check out the Eagle Street Team on their next summer adventure: the Soaps It Up! charity car wash hosted by Canada's CARSTAR. Join us for a great cause as funds raised at each CARSTAR location go directly to Cystic Fibrosis Canada along with local charities. Not to mention, you get a sparkling vehicle in return!
