Foothills MP John Barlow is building a platform for youth to get involved with and have their voices heard on issues involving federal politics.

Barlow is starting the Foothills Youth Advisory Committee and has appointed Erin Porter to chair it and they need youth 14 to 24 to apply.

"I started volunteering with John in my Grade 12 year," said Porter. "Ever since then I have always expressed my opinions on the federal issues that come up and he has always been extremely eager to listen. He wants to know and wants to listen to the youth of the community."

Because the riding is so large they will be using video conferencing to invite kids that might not be able to commute to the meeting location.

"We haven't decided on a location yet. It depends on where the majority of the applicants are from."

Anyone applying for the position should be up-to-date on current issues including things like refugees, opioids and the legalization of cannabis."

Porter is searching for applicants who are up to date on current issues including refugees, opioids and the legalization of cannabis.

On top of that we are looking for kids who volunteer with religious organizations, school groups and sports groups and things like 4-H.

Applications are being accepted until April 27th.

Once selected, the council will meet several times through the year.

Barlow said the youth of Foothills have strong and passionate voices, and I want to hear from them.

"This Youth Advisory Committee will be a platform to encourage engagement and participation for those that want to be involved, and want to be heard. I’m here to listen."
