The Calgary Stampede's Western Legacy Award nomination deadline has been extended.

Barry Davidson with the nomination committee says they honour groups and individuals who've promoted and preserved western values to make a better community.

"The Western Legacy Awards are meant to recognize people in our community and in southern Alberta that demonstrate or help us define the embodiment of western values and as we know labels get thrown all over the place but around Calgary and southern Alberta western values has always been a guiding principle for us from the area and who've moved to the area," Davidson says. "That speaks to promoting western hospitality, commitment to the community and a strong pride in place and integrity."

There are four categories, Sustained Contribution (Group), Sustained Contribution (Individual), Innovation (Individual) and Youth (Individual.

Last year Chuck Groeneveld of the High River area was a winner and historian Bill Dunn of Cayley has also previously won the award.

The nomination deadline is August 15th.

Davidson suggests going to their website, or google "Western Legacy Awards" and fill out the form there.
