Local EMS are urging commuters to use caution.

Tuesday nights combination of wet snow and freezing rain has left residential roads slick with a coating of ice.

Emergency service crews are asking residents to slow down and give themselves plenty of time to come to a complete stop and leave ample room between vehicles.

It's also recommended people give themselves extra time to get their destination safely and on time.

Motorists should make sure their tires have a durable tread, keep any fluids including window washer fluid topped up, and keep a window scraper as well as a first aid kit handy.

For those who are setting out on foot, paramedics recommend wearing proper footwear with a thicker tread and ankle support.

As of about 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, EMS said they'd responded to about 30 collisions within 12 hours in Calgary and the surrounding area.
