A big election win Monday, April 8 for new Turner Valley Town Councillor, Jamie Wilkie.

He took 64 per cent of the vote to win the by-election.

He says he was surprised at his margin of victory.

"I was blown away by the support I managed to get. I heard some great things at the door and people seemed positive, but to see it on paper like that when it came out. It exceeded my expectations by a wide margin."

He says the thrill of winning goes away quick once the reality of the job ahead hit him.

"You're sort of stunned when you get the results and you start thinking , Oh man, I've got a lot to get up the curb on. I've made an effort to try and reach out to most of the existing Councillors. I did that in advance to just try and get a feel for their views on issues and how they see Council working and what their plans are going forward."

Wilkie says once the Provincial Election is out of the way, and the government gets back to work, he's scheduled for some training to get him up to speed on procedural issues and then he says it's about getting up to speed on current issues.

Wilkie will be sworn in Monday, April 15 at the next regular meeting of Turner Valley Council.
