The Wildrose opposition is calling on the Provincial NDP Government to get the Health Quality Council of Alberta to launch a study into disparities in wait times.

Wildrose numbers point to knee replacement surgeries in the Calgary Zone, which includes High River and Okotoks, and as far south as Claresholm, has much shorter wait times than those who live in Lethbridge or Medicine Hat.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says that's not right.

"That is absolutely not right at all. That is almost double the amount of time in the South Calgary Zone. And it's almost appalling that this government is treating rural Albertans like second class citizens."

He says patients waiting for a knee replacement wait 37.1 weeks in the Calgary Zone, compared to 52.2 weeks in the South.
