Update -Â Â Power has been restored! According to Fortis AB, the cause of the outage was a bird. "Sometimes birds can interfere with the equipment, get in the substation or build nests which can all cause outages. In this case, a bird was on one of the transformers which caused the line to fault."Â

A widespread power outage occurred this morning on Canada Day at approximately 8:30 a.m.
The power outage is spread out from the Black Diamond area to Cayley with thousands of customers affected. According to Fortis, power should be restored before Noon.
