One local company is warming the homeless and locals hearts this winter.
Wheel Estate, an online community market place where people can list or book travel trailers, set up camp in front of the Okotoks Recreational Centre yesterday, December 3, collecting donations from Okotoks and surrounding community members.
Chad Ball, co founder of Wheel Estate says their goal is to fill their 26 ft Wheel Estate trailer and they are making great progress.
"The goal is simple, fill the trailer and so far we have about half of it filled...Friends and family have been literally dropping things off all week so our kitchen is full right now...the front side of our trailer is completely full with blankets and coats and you name it so...it's been over whelming with the people that have stopped by."
The Wheel Estate team is also taking the kindness one step further by taking personalized Christmas cards along with the donations to the Calgary Drop In Centre.
"We are taking pictures all day long here if anyone's made a donation. So we can put a face to the donation so when we drop off these Christmas cards it's not a faceless transaction it shows the homeless that there are people that actually care."
Chad, his wife and co founder of Wheel Estate Cherie, their 14 year old son Mason and his hockey teammates will be personally dropping off their haul on December 17 and Ball says it's important to show the youth the gift of giving.
"It's definitely important to get them involved at a young age to show them the compassion you need at this time of year and you want to make sure that that carries through into adulthood."
If residents missed a chance to swing by and donate yesterday the Wheel Estate team is collecting until December 16th.
