With Bill 6 looking like it's going to become law before the end of the year, many farmers are asking themselves "what's next."

James Jenkins owns and cow/calf operation east of Okotoks and says he's not in favour of the Bill, or the fact farmers could be forced to pay WCB premiums for family members or employees who don't want or need them.

"Many people already have insurance of some sort to cover a farm worker. We had several people at the rally yesterday who had offered WCB to an employee. The employee turned it down, he did not want it."

Jenkins says those with private insurance usually find it covers better and is cheaper.

He says as a sole proprietor the only downside to that with private insurance if something happened he could be named in a lawsuit as well.

He's quick to add that if it was his fault that a worker was injured or killed, he'd be quick to accept responsibility and the consequences.

Jenkins compares the legislation to a blank cheque, saying you have to hope once it's passed it will get filled out properly, or you could find yourself in a deep financial hole.
