We Day has inspired students across the province once again.

The event that encourages social change and young leaders makes a great impact on local schools each year.

Wednesday, October 26th Percy Pegler, Okotoks Junior High, Holy Trinity Academy and the Foothills Composite High School were all in attendance as guest speakers like Margaret Trudeau and Mayor Nenshi spoke words of encouragement.

Andrea Laubman, guidance counselor at the Foothills Composite High School says the event really inspires the group of students at her school that are already so involved in making the community a better place.

"The student group that we have are so motivated to impart change in the community, for example our Halloween event for the community. Last year we raised 500 pounds of food and this year they want to double it and they're just always looking for ways to include social justice into their day...and they're a pretty amazing group, they're very motivated."

Laubman says We Day is a great way to get the inspiration ball rolling and then throughout the year the We Movement, a movement that empowers students to change the world, keeps students on track and motivated.

"We movement sends us updates and different ideas that we can run through the year. So for instance they will send us educator resources and fundraising kits. So they actually just keep reaching out to us through the year. They sort of start off with this inspiring day and then we continue to connect with the We Movement throughout the year to make sure the kids are supporting it and keeping on track."

16,000 students from all over the province participated in We Day, and artists like Paula Abdul and Canadian rapper Classified performed to pump up the crowd.
