The Foothills may be seeing some light smoke due to fires in B.C. and the U.S.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Sara Hoffman says it's likely the Foothills will be fine, however we may be seeing some smoke later this week.

"At this time we aren't seeing the smoke from the BC fires make its way too far east of the Rockies, however, California has a large part of the state dealing with active wildfire situations, that smoke is moving northeastward and that smoke is poking into southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan."

Hoffman says if the smoke does find its way to the Foothills it won't stick around too long, but those with pre-existing conditions should be wary.

"As far as air quality goes, at this point, it's not affecting air quality because it is aloft, however, if it were to become mixed down it would potentially affect quality values. Air quality is something that is so important, for those folks who have conditions that would make them more susceptible to increased symptoms, that would be folks with cardio-vascular issues or respiratory issues, we encourage them to watch the air quality forecast as well as current conditions."
