The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo gets rolling Thursday with over 100,000 people expected to take in the four day extravaganza of all things pop-culture.

And Vulcan Tourism and the Trekcetera Museum will be front and centre.

Museum Curator Michael Mangold says for him the Expo is a great way to expose people to what the town of Vulcan has to offer.

"We get to meet people for the first time who don't know that Vulcan exists. Don't know that we're the Official Star Trek Capital of Canada. It's a great travel experience for fans. And of course everyone buys their shirt from the original series and people on the highway wonder where they're going." "Why Vulcan, Alberta of course!" Says Mangold. "So we love where we live. It is the Official Star Trek Capital of Canada, a little bit country and a little bit Star Trek."

With "Captain Kirk" himself, William Shatner in town for the Expo, social media has been rife with speculation he may make a side trip to Vulcan to check out where his friend Leonard Nimoy visited back in 2010.

Mangold says... Maybe? But probably not.

"We would love to have him come. As far as I'm aware, there's nothing in the works for this. I know our Mayor has asked him last time he was at the Expo to come out. Hopefully he will be hearing about us again, and maybe he'll stop by our booth. Maybe we can convince him this weekend, that he really needs to come out and see where his best friend Leonard Nimoy, came and left his hand print."

Regardless, Mangold says they'll be busy at the Expo all weekend promoting the Town of Vulcan and selling tickets for "Vul-Con" this summer, which has a star studded line-up on hand to help Star Trek celebrate 50 years.

The Calgary Expo runs Thursday through Sunday at Stampede Park.
