A financial advisor for the Co-operators in Vulcan has been recognized by the company for her community service.

Colleen Carey says it was a great honour.

"There's some pretty amazing people that do a lot in their communities so I was honoured with that and then to win it for western Canada I was extremely surprised but very thankful to be noticed, all the community work that me and my staff try to do," she says.

Beside sitting on the Vulcan Brand Innovation Team, Carey is chairperson of Kidsport Vulcan County, and is a junior high volleyball coach at County Central High School.

Last year she and her staff supported the Vulcan Tinman Triathlon, the Soccer Club of Vulcan County, Vulcan County Early Childhood Coalition, the RCMP Golf Tournament, and local 4-H clubs.

"I was born and raised here in Vulcan so I know the community quite well, but when I moved back and started with the Co-operator it was definitely a goal of mine to make sure that if I was working in a business, I wanted to make sure it was a business that allowed me to be involved in the community and make it a better place," Carey says.

She received the award February 2 at the Co-operators Western Regional Conference.
