A Calgary-based veterans organization in critical need of donations will be appearing in Okotoks.

The Veterans Association Food Bank is in dire need of donations, and will be making an appearance at the Centennial Arena tomorrow to collect donations before and after the Remembrance Day service.

Master Corporal Brad Menyes, Retired, says this time of year is particularly trying for the organization.

"With the food hamper drive coming up for the Christmas/Holiday season, that's one of their biggest pushes for the year, and currently they're very short on non-perishable food item donations. Anything that could be provided would certainly be of great benefit to them, because there are quite a few veterans out there that are in need."

He says the organization serves veterans across Southern Alberta as far North as Grande Prairie, and provides much more than just food.

"They provide a stable environment for veterans affected by loneliness, isolation, addition, mental health issues, or other mental related issues, with peer support programs and social activities on top of helping out with food and intake support and anything else that may be required."

MCpl Menyes says cash donations will also be accepted, though food items are currently needed most.

"Primarily right now, with the drive on for the Christmas food hampers, definitely non-perishable food items will be extremely helpful."
