The recent string of vehicle thefts in Okotoks only gets worse as a few attempted thefts and successful thefts happen again in the Crystal Ridge and Cimarron areas.

One vehicle was stolen from a busy street with a bus stop on it and plenty of school traffic.

Vehicle owner Jennifer Youssef says it happened in less then ten minutes.

"I have an 18 month old, and I went back into the house to get him dressed, I put his boots and jacket on and literally less then ten minutes I went back outside and my car that had been parked in front of my house was gone."

Youssef says she doesn't feel safe on her street anymore knowing these car thieves are targeting people and don't even care that there was children in the area when it happened.

"That's the thing that really upsets me." Youssef says "It wasn't in a time where it was really quiet. There were people on the street, and we have people stealing cars while kids are walking to bus stops."

The theme that seems to be continuing is that vehicles are being targeted while their owners leave them un-attended to warm up. With the colder weather on the horizon for next week local R.C.M.P officers are urging people to be vigilant, and advising that we don't leave our cars un-attended with the keys in them. They advise locking your doors, and keeping your vehicle in constant eye contact.

Jennifer Youssef says that it's also really important to report it as soon as you notice your vehicle missing.

"Call the R.C.M.P or the police right away because if the car is being driven on the road by the people who have stolen it while there's a call out on it, the R.C.M.P can look for it." Youssef adds "If it's too late and the car is parked and the people have left the car then it's harder to catch the criminals."

Again the public is urged to come forward with any information and report any suspicious behaviour to the Okotoks R.C.M.P detachment or Crimestoppers.
