The Town of Black Diamond is offering a service for those who are physically unable to get out and cast their vote in the municipal election.

The Incapacitated Voter at Home Service takes place before the official election date to make sure everyone is able to have their say.

Verna Staples, returning officer for the Town of Black Diamond, says the service is strictly for those who are physically unable to leave their homes.

"It's not for people who can't attend a voting station because of scheduling, but for people who are physically unable to leave their home to go and vote anywhere, so if they're an eligible voter and are incapacitated then they're able to apply for this service."

Those applying for the service still have to meet all of the eligibility guidelines in order to vote.

According to Staples, the service is set out in the Local Authorities Election Act and isn't offered by all municipalities.

She says conversations will be had with any residents requesting the service to make sure everyone is safe.

"The deputies that will be attending the home will need to make sure they are gloved or masked or anything else that they need to be when they go into a home," she explains. "For example, if someone's going through a chemo treatment or something where their immunity is down we'll want to make sure we're masked up when we go into their house so we're not sharing colds or flu's or anything with them at that time as well."

The Incapacitated Voter at Home Service is scheduled for Oct. 12 from 1- 8 p.m.

Those interested in this service must contact the Town of Black Diamond with their application by Sept. 27.
