The Okotoks United U16 boys soccer team could be found in front of the Okotoks Sobeys Saturday afternoon, trying to shield themselves from the rain while holding their fundraising BBQ.

The team was cooking up beef and cheese sausages on the BBQ for $2.

Asst. Coach Dan Pearson says that the funds raised go towards covering travel expenses.

"The fundraiser is to help alleviate some of the costs for the parents, with the boys jumping in and helping out getting some money together," Pearson says.

Each player on the team pitched into the event in some way shape or form.

Pearson says "We are heading out to Cranbrook. B.C this season and we are trying to get a tournament later in the year out in Saskatoon, Sask, Then we have provincials, which can be anywhere from Edmonton to Grand Prairie, so there is a lot of travel costs for us at the moment."

Along with the individual team fundraisers like this one, the team takes part in club wide fundraisers.

"We also do a big bottle drive here in town. Each team from U4 and U6's all the way up to the U18's , go out collecting bottles and taking them to the bottles depot to earn money for the club," Pearson says.
