With just a few calls more than the week before, the Okotoks Fire Department had a typical week.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says for the week of Aug. 10 to 16, the department answered to 18 different calls.

"We responded to four fire calls, two grass fires, a barn fire that turned into a grass fire out in the M.D. that we assisted four other fire departments with last Thursday," he says. "We also had a report of a structure fire at the Lakeview Inn and Suites, which turned out to be a small electrical fire that we dealt with."

He says that wasn't the only thing the department was busy with this past week.

"We had one investigation that we completed, we had ten medical responses, we had two public hazards that we dealt with, one was an oil spill while the other one was a gasoline rupture."

Thevenot did report that no one in town pulled an alarm, triggering a response from the department.

"We had no alarm system activations this week, which is kind of unusual but this week was quiet in that area and we had a motor vehicle accident, which is a total of 18 responses which brings us to a grand total of 687 responses for the year."

Thevenot says that number is still over 100 calls above last year's totals.
