The Okotoks Fire Department saw an increase of calls this week compared to the May Long Weekend.

Last week's report had 16 calls out to fire services while this week's edition of the fire report had 22 responses.

Deputy Fire Chief Dwight Seymour says they dealt with a couple of minor fire issues.

"We had two fire calls for small rubbish fires and there was no dollar losses on those," he says. "We had seven public service calls which included oil spills, we had six medical calls, five alarm system activations and one motor vehicle accident call."

Seymour says they're total amount of calls for the year is catching up to last year's totals at this time in 2015.

"We're at 368 calls so far this year, we're still behind from where we were from last year but getting closer to last year's numbers."

Seymour and the rest of the fire department are reminding residents to be cautious on the rivers in the area as they are starting to rise from this year's run-off.

"The river is going to start going up as it does every June and we want to make sure people are cautious when they're around the river, if they're on the river utilizing it that they've got life preservers on, if they're close to the river that they are making sure they're keeping track of their young ones while having fun but also being safe.
