There are nine candidates running for two School Board Trustee positions, and Mary Daunt is one of them

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

First of all, I am very approachable I have the ability to talk to people.  I also live in the community and I have a long history here. I taught in the Foothills School Division for 30 years, and I was in two provinces prior to that; So i actually have three permanent teaching certificates.  I have a lot of experience in education, as I was also a senator at the University of Lethbridge for 6 years and did a lot of liaising between Foothills School Division and the University.

What is the main part of your platform?:

Things like my views on inclusion in education.  I once taught home economics, and often in that course I would get children who had severe disabilities.  I have experienced everything from physical disabilities to mental issues and syndromes.  I have been a health lead teacher for years in the FSD and I also sat on the board of teaching sexual-health.ca for many years so I have a very strong background in human sexuality and teaching sexual health, which is a very big issue with students in the LGBTQ Community in our division.  I've also heard from the people living near the HTA school and seniors in the community - they're worried about traffic and I hear the people saying "Oh my goodness it's impossible to get around, what about when they open the new k-9 school in the same area next year? What about us?" With my background I think I am qualified to advocate for everyone in the process.

Why do you believe you'd make a good Trustee?:

I really believe that it takes a community to educate a child, that we are all in this together.  I've had people approach me and ask me to run, as they knew I had an interest and these are people from all walks of life.  From parents with students in school, parents of students already graduated, active and retired teachers, and even people like senior citizens who have concerns that they aren't being considered in the process.
