With the popular Light Up Okotoks community event around the corner, the town is reminding residents to keep safety in mind at this evening event.

Mark Doherty, Community Events Coordinator for the town, says it's a safe practice to take photos of children who will be in attendance.

"Please take a picture of your child or children before coming to the event. It's an night time event, if someone gets separated, we need to know exactly what they're wearing," he said.

With Light Up Okotoks being an evening event and much excitement for all, it's much easier to locate a child who may have wondered off if there is an image of what they looked like when heading to the event.

Doherty says being separated from a child is stressful for a parent, so having a real time photo is helpful is these circumstances.

"We need to know exactly what they're wearing, and sometimes that can be confusing to a parent who's lost a child," he said.

He says there will be plenty of enjoyable activities provided to residents, and safety is a top priority for patrons to enjoy what the evening has to offer.

Doherty adds that a missing child can make it difficult for parents to remember details that may assist in finding them, so taking a photo in advance ensures an accurate image in real time, easing the task of locating them.
