The Town of Okotoks celebrated Earth Hour this weekend with a guided walking tour.

The walk was hosted by the town's Museum and Archives, and was the town's fourth year hosting the Earth Hour Walking Tour.

This year's walk focused on the history of electricity in Okotoks, as well as how residents can aid with conserving power.

Jinny Toffelmire, Environment and Sustainability Specialist with the Town, has plenty of tips for how residents can help out, while also keeping their energy bill down.

"The easiest thing that people can do is switch out your light bulbs. LED lights use a lot less electricity than standard light bulbs, and they're pretty standard on the market now. I think it's probably harder to find a standard light bulb," Toffelmire says.

Earth Hour began as a small movement in 2007, and has progressed into a worldwide event, being celebrated in over 180 countries. It is traditionally celebrated on the last Saturday in March.
