The Town of Okotoks unveiled a public participation survey for their 2020 budget.

The survey will be available online early this week, but the town previewed the survey at their booth at the Okotoks Trade & Lifestyle show this weekend.

Residents will be asked a series of questions about how they think the Town should allocate funds for their 2020 Operations budget.

Melanie Heemeryck, Communications Specialist with the Town, says the survey is an attempt to both inform and involve citizens in the Town's decision-making process.

"It just allows (residents) a very high-level picture of the budget process, understanding how the Town of Okotoks goes about the process, and just be able to participate in some of that decision-making," Heemeryck said.

Heemeryck says the online survey will provide live results, so residents can view the feedback as it rolls in.

As this is the first stage of the budget consultation process, this survey will focus on the division of the Operations budget. The Town will be looking for feedback for Capital projects later in the Spring.

Heemeryck lists the Homestead project, the Municipal Development Plan, and on-demand transit as projects she thinks will be hot topics for Okotoks residents as the public participation project continues.

Residents can find the survey on the Town of Okotoks website when it becomes available this week.
