Once again Town of Okotoks workers are out cleaning the streets after an unsanctioned post Halloween event.

Used pumpkins have been found along roadways including the hillside of Veterans Way instead of being disposed of.

Okotoks Municipal Enforcement Manager Tim Stobbs says it isn't uncommon to see pumpkins on the streets following Halloween.

"For many years within the Town of Okotoks some of our youth have been rolling pumpkins down hills and on the roads it's almost a right of passage it would appear."

Instead of pointing the finger to those that may be responsible to the pumpkin rolling Stobbs says it's just easier to ignore the littering and just move on.

"That's a relatively harmless event and as a Town we take the time to ensure that the next day we clean the minor mess up as quickly as we can with our street sweepers."

He says there's not much law enforcement can do about the pumpkins but there is other ways you could dispose of them.

"Some people like to recycle them, make pies out of them, make them into compost or whatever it may be. I know for a fact that there are many uses that can be made of a used pumpkin but it would appear that many of our youth still enjoy the bit of a prank," Stobbs says. "I suppose it's a lot better than setting a bale of fire in the middle of the road or tipping over somebody's outhouse."
