UPDATE: The Town of Okotoks has released an additional Public Service Announcement to clarify yesterday's announcement:

Alberta Health Services requires all sports organizations to manage and maintain records of all attendees for the purposes of contact tracing. This requirement is the reason for the limited spectators allowed in the facilities to assist their children in getting ready for their activity.

Tight resources and staffing limitations are the reason the Town cannot allow spectators for every sport, age group, or users. Okotoks Minor Hockey and the Okotoks Figure Skating Club have stated they will provide the necessary volunteers for contact tracing.

At this time the following facilities will have space to accommodate spectators: Pason Green, Pason Gold, ORC Piper. The Aquatics Centre has no spectator space available.

Original Story:

Limited spectator access has been a rising concern for families with children in recreational sports and activities in Okotoks.

The town has announced that one parent or guardian will be permitted to accompany their children into the building and assist them with dressing for their activity. This applies to children under the age of 11.

The parent or guardian will then be permitted to watch in a designated standing-only spectator area.

Masks will be required for anyone entering the Pason Centennial Arenas, as well as the Recreation Centre. Children will be permitted to remove their masks once their activity begins.

The leisure ice will remain closed until further notice.
