Students in Okotoks have a chance to leave their mark on the town by designing a Town of Okotoks Youth Logo.

The Town of Okotoks is asking youth to put their creative caps on, and submit a design which will form the basis of branding and promotion for youth-related initiatives in town.

Carey Gruber, Youth Social Development Specialist, says they're looking to enhance their relationship with young people in Okotoks.

"The Town really wants to reach out and bring youth into all of its planning for youth-related initiatives," she shares. "The way that we're starting to do that is by offering this Logo Design Contest so that we can engage youth in everything right from the start of planning what's going to happen in the town."

The chosen logo will be the face of everything youth related in the Town of Okotoks, including the Friday night teen program at the Recreation Centre, or a youth friendly Okotoks business designation.

Gruber says the winning design will be chosen by youth, votes will be cast in all Okotoks Junior and Senior High Schools to decide the winner.

She adds the winner will also receive a mock-up of the design which would be suitable to include in an employment portfolio or resume.

There are five suggested themes youth can take with the design, all of which reflect the Town of Okotoks' mission and vision statements.

The themes include; Youth-friendly community, Resilient and thriving, Vibrant civic culture, Exceptional quality of life for all, and Respect for each other and the environment

"We are really hoping to have lots of interesting, vibrant, and diverse designs come in for this contest. It is a way for local youth to really leave their mark in the town, and influence all of the things that the town is doing that is youth-related for many, many years."

The chosen logo will be officially unveiled at the Pason Centennial Arena Expansion Grand Opening March. 3

Local youth aged 12 to 18 residing in Okotoks and the M.D. of Foothills are welcome to enter the contest.

The submission deadline is Jan. 31.
