Power was lost in parts of Okotoks and the M.D. of Foothills after a thunderstorm swept over the Foothills Tuesday afternoon.

Fortis Alberta says 1,800 customers lost power between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m.

The Okotoks Fire Department responded to a grass fire about an acre in size after lightning struck a power line along Highway 7 east of Okotoks, which caused the subsequent outage.

Fire chief Ken Thevenot says it took eight firefighters about 15 minutes to get the fire under control.
