A new tree in Kinsmen Park has been enshrined to hard working organizations promoting leadership in the community.

The Town of Okotoks along with the Okotoks Rotary Club and local media were saluted for their 20 year partnership promoting volunteerism.

Volunteer Administrator for the Town Sian Anderson says having the tree planted in the infamous Voluntree Grove for the partnership is quite the honour.

"So many agencies rely on volunteers at home and in our communities, we have volunteers that shovel snow for residents that can't do it themselves," she says. "Volunteering comes across in everything the town does, even those who don't think they're volunteering, they often are and making a huge difference in the life of those around them."

Anderson says the many needles of the dedicated fir tree symbolizes all the many volunteers the Town and Rotary have had work together with other over the past 20 years.

"We're kind of hoping it really indicates the partnership that we have to have already existed for 20 years and its still growing stronger each year."

The partnership between the organizations was honoured at the 20th Annual Leadership awards earlier this year and Anderson says she hopes the partnership continues for another 20 years.

"For all of us being there that night it was very inspiring to see what today's youth are doing and what they continue to do, as well as the many adults in town that are actively volunteering."
