Bomb threats in Calgary and other Major city's in North America Thursday, December 13, had police departments run ragged trying to track down potential explosives.

Vulcan Cyber Security Expert David Swan says this is the second time something like this has happened in recent months.

"Previously there were 15 States that were hit with a similar Bit Coin threat. This time it was more places spread wider across the U.S. and Canada. If it's the same people involved in both, they're getting more thoughtful about how they're doing it. And I'm kind of wondering if we're going to be facing an escalation."

Swan, who previously worked in Military Intelligence with the Canadian Armed Forces before taking his knowledge to the private sector says police and other agencies have no choice but to take these threats seriously.

However, he says those responsible need to watch their backs.

Swan says if they're sophisticated hackers, they're going to be tough to track down, if they're not, they're now on the radar of authorities and could be facing some serious trouble if they're caught.

Luckily, no bombs were actually found at any of the places they were threatened to have been.

He says it's anyone's guess that if these types of threats continue, if one won't lead to an actual bomb being placed and potentially going off.
