Over the past couple weeks, the Okotoks Fire Department has been "filling the boot" to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness, and this weekend they'll find out how much they've made, as it's the final weekend for the Fill The Boot Campaign.

So far, over almost $3,000 has been raised in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Society, and the department is hoping to eclipse last year's fundraising tally.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says it's a challenge the community can meet.

"Last year we did $5,000, so lets try to get over top of that," he says.

If you haven't had a chance to donate to fill the boot, you'll have a few more opportunities this coming weekend before the drive is over.

"This Friday night and Saturday, we'll be at Costco and Canadian Tire, trying to get that boot filled right to the top," he says. "So then on Sunday we'll do a presentation during the Okotoks Dawgs' Breast Cancer Game."

Thevenot says the boot was filled quite extensively during Hometown Heroes Night at Seaman Stadium.

"We passed the boot around, and we collected around 2500 dollars that evening," he says. "So it was a really outstanding evening by our team, but especially by the crowd that was at the baseball game that night."

If you can't make it to Canadian Tire, Costco or the upcoming Dawgs games, Thevenot says you can bring your donation to the fire hall and fill the boot there.
