The work can now get underway to officially combine the Wildrose and the Progressive Conservative Parties into one.

Both parties memberships voted 95 per cent in favour of the merger to form a new party called the United Conservative Party.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says it's history in the making.

"It tells you right there that both parties and members of both parties have parked their egos...and now it's time to move forward with a bright new future for Alberta, and our whole objective is that we are going to bring the Alberta advantage back and get rid of this NDP Government."

Anderson is packing his bags to go to Edmonton for a meeting with their new 30 member caucus.

Anderson says they are going to have a caucus of 30 members, which makes them a more powerful opposition.

"...We will be electing a new interim leader, as I'm assuming Mr. (Brian) Jean and Mr. (Jason) Kenney will step down from their positions and start campaigning for the leadership role which will take place in October, which I'm looking forward to."

Anderson says he's looking forward to what's to come, as Alberta politics are on the course of change.
