A De Winton man is all over underwear.

Brent King has been behind the 'Got Ginch - Cross Canada Underwear Drive' for the homeless for the last seven years.

He says underwear is not something a lot of people think about as an big need.

"They aren't appropriate to give them used, and most of the clothing donations for these shelters are in a used format so to actually get good, clean, new underwear is very rare and we found on the top of the wish list on all shelters across Canada is happened to be underwear, and not just men's but women's as well," King says.

He says over the seven years the project has been going they've been able to raise almost $300,000 which bought almost 250,000 pairs of underwear delivered to ten shelters across the country each year.

"We've been buying in bulk here for seven years, so we buy right from the factory, which helps a lot, but it's an item that you can give without dipping too deep in your pocket," he says. "It's one of these items that restores basic dignity, now most of the shelters that we deal with have transition programs to help people work their way off the street back into society again, and the experts tell me that rebuilding dignity is the very first step in that process."

He'll be making his final rounds to the Mustard Seed in Calgary Thursday morning at which time he's stepping back from the national level.
