It was an evening of magic for 19 couples and their families as they took part in the 28th Annual High River Spring Ball.

The purpose of the program, which began in 1991, was to reintroduce the youth of the community to some of the manners and life skills that students need once they graduate from high school.

The lessons they learn add to their character and give them confidence to go out into the grown-up world.

This year's Queen, Cassidy Read says it was a great experience.

"I am so happy I was involved in this program," she said. "It has taught me so many skills for my life."

She adds the Grade 10 students should start thinking about taking part in the program next year.

King Chase Morgan is excited about having the chance to take part in the program, which is unique.

"It's been such an inspirational and educational experience for me," Morgan said.

"It's been a huge confidence builder for me. I had stage fright going into it and ended up lip-synching Taylor Swift in a dress at the talent show."

The program, which is taught by volunteers, takes eight weeks to complete and includes classes on proper etiquette and ballroom dancing.

It took place on March 11, 2017 and along with Read and Morgan the other 2017 Royalty include: Peyton Slavin, Travis Bakaluk, Ethan Sawatsky and Foster Laycraft.
