For the third straight year, Okotokians got their fill of local cuisine at the Taste of Okotoks on Saturday.

Over 20 different vendors covering all food groups filled the bellies of eager foodies.

Community Events Coordinator for the Town of Okotoks, Mark Doherty says the number of local restaurants that were at this event did a great service for the community.

"Last year we had 14 (vendors) and such a variety of food," he says. "Really good portions, I've talked to a number of people, I asked how they felt about the day and they say this is great, so they're really enjoying it."

He says the Taste of Okotoks will continue to grow from its humble beginnings three years ago, and it's a great way to promote the local establishments in town.

"Really the idea was, we wanted to do a community event and support our restaurants," he says. "Economic times it's always tough on restaurants, that's that disposable income and this is a great boost, not only today (Saturday) but to give them some exposure and get some new clientele coming into the restaurants."

Patrons were able to enjoy the different flavours, and avoid the possibility of a severe thunder storm watch that was hovering near Okotoks, but the storm stayed away from the event.

Doherty says mother nature seems to just find better things to do, instead of interrupting an outdoor event in Okotoks.

"In 23 years of doing community events and all of them outside, I've had the rain gods on my side, but the lottery gods is a whole different question."
