Unofficial election results show that Tanya Thorn has been elected mayor of Okotoks.

The results will remain unofficial until they're verified this Friday (Oct. 22) though numbers reported from the Town of Okotoks show 4,409 votes for Thorn.

Of the other two candidates, Jeff Reinhart received 1,876 votes, with Naydene Lewis receiving 1,166.

Thorn celebrated the result at Crystal Ridge Golf Course with her campaign team.

Okotoks' new mayor-elect is grateful for the support fellow residents have shown.

"Thank you. Thank you for your faith in me, thank you for giving me this opportunity to lead our community forward, and I look forward to everybody coming to the table to bring their ideas forward and find solutions to grow our community and realize the possibilities that are available to us."

She's also eager to get to know the (mostly) new council.

"I'm excited to get to know the new team the community has elected, figuring out what ideas they're bringing forward and the perspectives they have and figuring out how we're going to work together as a team to lead our community for the next four years."

Once the new council is up to speed, they'll be jumping into budget talks and strategic planning, among other things.

The elected council members are:

-Cheryl Actemichuk
-Oliver Hallmark
-Ken Heemeryck
-Gord Lang
-Brent Robinson
-Rachel Swendseid
