The Foothills School Board is looking at a proposal that could take students outside the classroom to learn.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says the proposal was brought to their last board meeting by two teachers.

"Graham Campbell, who's currently at Westmount school and Ryan Lemphers, who's currently at Percy Pegler School, both in Okotoks, and there's an interest and a desire on their part to create an alternative program that would focus on nature based learning," he says. "What that means in the current context, they both teach in the Grades 4, 5 realm, is they bring their students out two days a week into the community of Okotoks and the learning takes place in community locations."

He says that could be things like the museum or along the river valley.

The board agreed to do a feasibility study which mean administration will work with Percy Peglar school, the base for the program, as well as teachers and the school community and then bring back a plan for implementation if it is feasible.

It would then come to a meeting of the trustees in late January 2021.
